Introduction to the team

We create and deliver an aligned, dedicated marketing strategy to fuel each Expedia Group brand's success. Since our travelers interact with us through our brands, we have a brand focus in our marketing, while leveraging the scale and efficiency we’ve built in functional expertise. 

The Director of Program Management will play a crucial role in leading and driving the execution of complex initiatives that underpin our broader SEO business, platforms and initiatives. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage a team of program managers, and work closely with product and engineering teams to deliver innovative solutions that enhance our customer experience and drive business growth.

They should know how to motivate team members to drive cross-organizational initiatives forward, delving into details as necessary and delegating responsibly to a team of independent, creative, and ambitious program managers. They are responsible for managing a team of program managers across US and India to shape our delivery culture and lead the program management function across our organization. This team has developed strong partnerships with our stakeholders, moves quickly, makes iterative improvements, is agile, has technical excellence, and gathers customer feedback early and often.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and mentor a team of program managers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and operational excellence

  • Assign program managers in roles and assignments that stretch their capabilities and empower personal and career development

  • Establish and maintain clear roles and responsibilities and best practices for program management, driving continuous improvement in processes and methodologies

  • Define and drive the strategic direction of technical programs, aligning them with business goals, key metrics and customer needs

  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and design teams and guide the team to develop project plans, set milestones, and manage program execution from initiation to delivery, adjusting priorities, mitigating risks, timelines, or resources as needed

  • Enable optimum organizational efficiency by taking a whole systems approach and thinking across boundaries to identify which polices/processes should be standardized, which should differ and how to enable the team in achieving efficiencies

  • Manage stakeholder communication and expectations, ensuring transparent and effective reporting on program progress, risks, and mitigations

  • Lead and coordinate the monthly and quarterly business reviews, planning activities within the SEO team and help align those efforts with partner teams

  • Work across team boundaries with product leaders, engineering leaders and program managers of multiple products or efforts to appropriately prioritize work to gain alignment with overall initiative, organization, and company goals

  • Actively identify and drive resolution on cross-team issues, scope changes, resource constraints, and other impediments

  • Proactively identify and mitigate issues and risks. Leveraging experience to anticipate risks in advance of impacts. Integrate business and cross-division perspective into issue/risk identification & mitigation. Decide mitigation strategies (when appropriate)

  • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscapes to inform program strategy and innovation

Experience and qualifications:

  • 10+ years of related experience in related field, technology platform product management and/or large strategic program management

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field; or MBA or equivalent related professional experience

  • Demonstrates experience owning complex program strategy development and implementation across a program portfolio that enables world-class outcomes

  • Experience driving a culture of constructive critique, challenging others to bring fresh and creative perspectives to differentiating functional technical communications

  • Demonstrates the ability to creatively develop tools, visual aids and other original content to support the understanding/education of sophisticated and technical information (e.g., legal, operational risk, and regulatory data)

  • Experience coaching others on the standard methodologies and approaches for crafting clear, concise and organized communication materials to convey program status in a user-friendly way

  • Possess extensive experience in managing teams and nurturing talent, which involves guiding individuals through their professional journeys, providing mentorship, and creating opportunities for career advancement

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $224,000.00 to $313,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $358,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
