Position Summary

The SEO Team Lead is a dual-impact role designed for a seasoned expert who can drive exceptional client results while fostering the growth of a high-performing SEO team. You will serve as the primary strategic lead for a dedicated book of clients—managing monthly optimizations, quarterly recaps, and content strategies—while simultaneously overseeing a team of SEO Specialists. As a Team Lead, you are responsible for maintaining operational excellence, ensuring Task Completion SLAs are met across your team, and mentoring staff on best practices. You will act as a senior point of escalation for Account Managers and work cross-functionally to refine our SEO product offering in an ever-evolving digital landscape.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • People Management: Supervise and mentor a team of SEO Specialists, providing guidance on complex technical issues and fostering professional growth.
  • Operational Oversight: Manage team workflows and task distribution to ensure all client deliverables are completed on time and meet internal quality standards (SLA management).
  • Knowledge Transfer: Facilitate regular training sessions on the latest SEO trends, algorithm updates, and industry best practices to keep the team at the cutting edge.
  • Onboarding: Assist in the hiring, onboarding, and integration of new team members into the SEO department.

Client Portfolio Management (Direct Execution)

  • Monthly Fulfillment: Execute high-level SEO work for a personal book of clients, including metadata refinement, content updates, and blogging strategies based on specific service packages.
  • Quarterly Performance Recaps: Analyze and present deep-dive organic performance reports to stakeholders, translating data into long-term growth strategies.
  • Technical Auditing: Lead advanced audits using ScreamingFrog, GSC, and GA4 to identify and resolve critical site issues for your clients.

Cross-Functional Strategy

  • Account Partnering: Collaborate with Account Managers to address performance fluctuations and provide high-level resolution paths for identified issues.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline SEO processes, improve site performance across the client base, and refine the department’s tactical playbook.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Leadership & Professional Experience

  • Experience: 4+ years of dedicated SEO experience, with at least 1 year in a lead, supervisory, or mentorship capacity.
  • Portfolio Management: Proven track record of successfully managing multiple high-priority clients or stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Strategic Expertise: Deep mastery of technical SEO, keyword research, and content strategy, with the ability to teach these concepts to others.

Technical & Core Competencies

  • Education: BA or BS degree required; advanced degree is a plus.
  • Tool Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge of Google Search Console, Google Analytics (GA4), and ScreamingFrog.
  • Communication: Exceptional presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to bridge the gap between technical execution and client-facing business goals.
  • Problem Solving: An agile, proactive problem solver who can handle team-level escalations and complex technical roadblocks with ease.
  • Organizational Skills: Superior time-management skills to balance personal client work with the administrative and coaching needs of a team.
