What You Will Do
- Administer Pennsylvania's on-lot sewage permitting program on behalf of municipal clients.
- Conduct site evaluations, soil probes, and witness percolation testing to assess site suitability.
- Review, approve, deny, or revoke sewage permit applications in accordance with Act 537 and PA DEP regulations.
- Inspect new sewage system installations and repairs to ensure compliance with approved designs and codes.
- Enforce applicable state and local sewage regulations, including issuing notices of violation when necessary.
- Maintain accurate field notes, inspection logs, permits, and official records.
- Provide guidance and education to property owners, developers, installers, and municipal officials.
- Collaborate with municipal leadership, engineers, health departments, and regulatory agencies.
- Prepare reports and documentation and attend hearings or court proceedings as required.
- Stay current on regulatory updates, industry standards, and best practices through continuing education.
What you Bring
- Certification as a Pennsylvania Sewage Enforcement Officer (or ability to obtain and maintain certification).
- Strong knowledge of the PA Sewage Facilities Act (Act 537) and 25 Pa. Code Chapters 71-73.
- Experience performing and interpreting soil testing, percolation tests, and site evaluations.
- Ability to review and evaluate sewage permit applications for regulatory and technical compliance.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in recordkeeping and reporting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills when working with applicants, municipalities, and colleagues.
- Experience in construction, plumbing, soils, surveying, or environmental inspection preferred.
- College-level coursework in environmental science, biology, geology, or a related field preferred.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites throughout the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas.
